Tom Wigley was invited to the famous Villach ’85 conference, but he was not there pushing action on climate change. Credit for that goes to the convenor, Mustafa Tolba, and the chair, Jim Bruce. The conference was convened to discuss the findings of the SCOPE 29 report. In his chapter, Wigley had refused to present the long range global temperature trend because he was doubtful that the proxy evidence was adequate. That he retained this view in the Hockey Stick Controversy was revealed in the Climategate emails.
