The pronounced warming trend in the south lattitudes depicted in Santer [1995b] (our ‘mirror in the sky’), and given as distinctive of the human signal, is the result of a careful selection of the time-range of data used (1963-88) according to a letter by Michaels and Knappenberger published in Nature on 12 Dec 1996 in response to the Santer paper appearing there in July.
